Spring Weddings

Spring can be a beautiful, though unpredictable time of year. The great British climate varies so much at this time of year, which might explain why it comes in third place as the favourite time of year to get married!

But, weather aside - there are so many reasons why Spring is an ideal time of year for a wedding.

The Meaning of spring

Spring is seen as a time of re-birth and rejuvenation. It is the time of year when spring flowers can bee seen emerging from the ground bringing the first splashes of colour back to the landscape. Crocuses and Daffodils spring to mind (excuse the pun!). Baby sheep bleat in the fields, birds start feathering their nests ready for their young. Butterflies start to emerge which is an ideal theme for spring weddings too.

The practicalities of marrying in Spring

In practical terms, Spring can be ideal as a time of year to get married if you are having a church wedding. It may be that you can book your church at Easter time and so take advantage of the Easter flowers that will adorn the church.

You will probably find that it is easier to book venues and wedding services for a spring wedding as it is a quieter time of year for them.

Remember though that the weather can be very changeable and so it might be wise to purchase a pretty stole or bolero jacket to go with your dress. Goosebumps are not a good look! Nor are runny noses and streaming eyes so don't forget to take along some antihistamines in your wedding emergency bag if you are prone to suffering from hay fever as the pollen count can be high during this time of year!

Also - it would be worth investing in a Bridal Brolly! We have found one company -

Pretty Lanterns

Brollies Galore who offer some beautiful wedding brollies. How much better would one of these look in any snap shot wedding photos family and friends take?

Talking of photos - it would be worth having a back up plan for your wedding photos backdrop should the weather be too wet! So, when you are picking your venue - you should bear this in mind as some venues will be able to offer alternative back drops for your wedding photos - inside.

Spring Colours

There are so many to choose from. Typically a spring wedding conjours up images of Cath Kitson in my mind with muted hues of blue, pinks and greens. However spring colours can be more vibrant with orange, greens, fuscia and bright yellow.

When it comes to choosing your wedding dress, you can choose from a wide range of colours these days including some in delicate pastel shades. Or perhaps rather than go for a full on coloured gown, you might want to take advantage of this year's fashion statements and add a dash of colour with a sash or a ribbon.

It might be worth avoiding satin during the spring because of the unpredictable weather as water leaves marks on satin.

Spring Flowers

There are a number of spring flowers to choose from including:

Tulips Roses Foxglove
Irises Hyacinth Primrose
Lilac Gerber daisies Bluebells
Dafodils Anemonies
Crocuses Honeysuckle

These flowers all make beautiful headdresses as well to compliment a spring theme.

Spring Table Decorations

Spring Table Decorations

Gingham and Spots are a typically spring look and perhaps you might want to incorporate those into your theme. Use wild flowers as your table decoration and perhaps tie gingham ribbon around the vase. Gingham looks so pretty with florals.

You could even go for an Easter theme if you are getting married during Easter, and decorate your tables with decorated eggs, fluffy yellow chicks and little rabbits! The Germans love to decorate their houses during Easter and you will often see branches in vases with delicate painted eggs hanging from them by pretty ribbons.

Spring Wedding Favours

Why not give your guests packets of wild flower seeds for them to scatter at home in their gardens. You can even buy Butterfly attracting flower seeds! You could even tie in the gingham theme by putting them in gingham pouches to go with your table decorations. Another idea would be to have some spring themed cookies as wedding favours, such as a butterfly, how about some Candy Striped Cellophane Bags in Pretty pastel coloured ready for you to fill! or a daisy or whatever else you feel fits in with your idea of spring!
