"WEDDING hair is probably the most important style a woman will ever choose so it is vital that you give yourself enough time to choose the look you want to achieve for that very special day,” says celebrity stylist Nicky Oliver
Brides to be that visit his two city centre Manchester salons for wedding advice are urged to consider that they will be looking at that style countless times over years to come when they bring out their wedding album for friends and family.
“I always advise brides-to-be to book an appointment with their hair stylist at least 12 months before the wedding,” said Nicky during a break from styling at his trendy Oldham Street salon. “ That first meeting will be crucial because you and your stylist will need to discuss a great many things."
“First of all, what look do you want to achieve? What style of dress will you be wearing?
Should you have your hair up or down? Is your hair in good condition?"
“You will need to discuss colour too, whether you should have highlights or full colour. Your stylist will need to discuss the condition of your hair. It may need some special treatments to get it back into the best possible condition or you may need to grow it if you want to wear it long.”
By visiting their stylist of choice a full year before the Big Day, brides to be give themselves time to grow their hair long, if that’s the look they want says Nicky. But even if they don’t take that advice a quality hairpiece can save the day, as well as well as adding colour, thickness and length.
“The possibilities are endless so the key to preparing for your wedding day is to allow as much time for thought, consideration and planning,” added the Northern hair maestro.
“I’ve seen brides-to-be make a decision on whether to wear their hair up or down on their big day while standing in front of the mirror in a jeans and t-shirt. Having your hair up casually may look great with jeans but will look totally different with a wedding dress."
“You need to bear in mind lots of other aspects, not least the style of the dress you will put on for your wedding which can dictate the best look for your hair. Rash decisions can spell a style disaster on the Big Day."
“Even your choice of flowers will have a bearing on your hair and your overall look when you walk down the aisle – so think long and hard.”
Nicky and his team offer a full hair and make-up service for weddings and can be booked to descend on the venue, wherever that may be, on the wedding day to make sure the bride and her bridesmaids have expert help at those crucial moments.
“This way they know that the hair and make up of the bride, her mum and the bridesmaids will be absolutely spot on,” added Nicky. “My team and I have travelled across the length and breadth of the country to be there for clients on their big days.
“Not only do they want to ensure we are there to make them look their very best, they take comfort from the fact that we are on hand should any emergencies arise. But never forget, the best way to ensure your wedding hair is perfect is to plan ahead ……and planning ahead costs nothing.”
