monochrome themed wedding stationeryThe key to going monochrome is to start as you mean to go on. After all, you are sure to have laid down some ground rules before agreeing to the marriage in the first place so why not do so with the wedding guests as well! Whether you are asking the guests to join in the theme or not, you can really give them a taste of what is to come by sending out black and white invitations. Go the whole hog with black and white envelopes and RSVP cards or simply use one or two accessories to create your perfect invitation.

Whatever your preference, the market place is packed full of beautiful wedding stationery with a black and white theme which is often more affordable than other options due to the simplicity of the design.

Pictured here is a selection named 'Charlston' from local designers Valentines Occasions, based in Deeside. The design shown comes at a snip starting at just 75p for the place settings and with the most expensive item being the daytime invitation at just £2.00

From the moment the guests arrive, the theme itself should be striking. Being brave with the venue decoration is the way to go with monochrome. If you are the outrageous type go for bold striking contrasts. Seat covers and table decoration are the obvious choice for a fairly low cost way to turn any room from the ordinary into the spectacular. Centrepieces featuring ostrich feathers or contrasting lilies with generous amounts of black ribbon will really stand out as will co-ordinated table numbers and seating plans.

It can be hard to know where to start when envisaging your venue decoration. Pictured here is a room dressed by Covers and Bows of Whitby, Ellesmere Port. Business owner Ronda has been in the wedding industry for 8 years specialising in all types of venue decoration so whether you have an idea in mind already or you need to start from scratch, you can rely on Ronda who quite literally has everything covered!

Ronda's ideas are endless and although based in Ellesmere Port , she will travel throughout the North West and North Wales .

The seat covers themselves come in white, ivory or black and in all shapes and sizes to fit all types of chairs. When it comes to the sashes, Ronda has a wide range of colours and fabrics and even offers a colour matching service to your choice of fabric and all for around £3.50 per chair including delivery! Visit the Covers and Bows Website to see some more fantastic examples of Ronda's work at www.coversandbows.co.uk .

If you prefer to make your statement subtlety but just as well, use a predominantly white theme with touches of black throughout.

If you are holding your wedding in a marquee, you will have a blank canvass with means that the possibilities are endless! Consider everything from the simple such as a black and white pattered dance floor to the clever such as black ceiling or wall swags.

sugar and spice monochrome wedding cakeWhen it comes to the cake, less is more. Layering will quite simply result in a breathtaking masterpiece of monochrome. Add flowers or other decoration such as hearts or feathers to capture the sub theme but take care not to overdo things, after all there will be plenty of chance for this when the best man makes his speech!

The cake pictured here is named 'Monochrome Floral' and was created by Mike of Sugar and Spice, Charles Street , Wrexham. Mike has been making wedding cakes for 30 years and although all of his cakes are made as a one off, he says of this cake that it brings in many enquiries.

Many more examples of Mike's delicious cakes can be found at www.sugarandspice-wrexham.co.uk . A four tiered twelve inch version of the cake pictured here costs around £499 in fruit or £310 in sponge. Mike specialises in both fruit and sponge cakes and also sells cake decorations and catering equipment in his shop in Wrexham. Visit him to claim 10% off any wedding cake order as a Mrs2Be bride.

And finally, for a fun twist to the theme why not use patterns such as polka dot or accessories such as everton mints or carefully selected dolly mixtures. If your nerves will take it and the heavy drinkers can be otherwise occupied for most of the day, why not serve black and white Russians. Quite simply, whatever your budget and however far you want to take it, monochrome is a great way to really make a statement - it's as clear as black and white!
