Choosing wedding reception venues

When choosing your wedding reception venue there are the obvious things to consider such as size of venue, cost and location but there are even more important considerations first.

Your personality

It is so important that your day is one that you will remember for years to come for all the right reasons, so you must be comfortable with it. Take a step back and think about your personality. Do you like to be the centre of attention, or do you prefer to stand back? Are you comfortable with a large crowd of people or do you prefer to be with a smaller more intimate group?

What's your passion?

Do you have a particular passion such as Celtic history or gothic history? Maybe you and your husband to be both share a sporting passion such as a particular football team, scuba diving or mountaineering!

Formal or Informal Affair

Are you fond of formal occasions or do they make you quiver inside? It is imperative that you enjoy your day and that you do not have any regrets after the event. If you have always wanted a big full on ceremony then that is what you should have. Alternatively if the thought of that makes you sick with nerves, then why put yourself through it when you can have a small, intimate affair.

Themed Wedding Reception

Again, if you have a particular fashion, why not go for a themed reception. Perhaps ask your guests to dress up in 1920s styled clothing or as mentioned above, medieval and Celtic weddings are very popular.

When you have made these decisions, you then need to consider the number of guests you have on your wish list and your wedding reception budget. With these two figures in mind, you will be able to do some research on the venues that can cater for your needs.

Once you have your short list, give them a call and go through your list of requirements and from that conversation you will be able to get a feel for which of the venues you would like to go and visit.

Make an appointment and take with you a notepad and pen with a list of questions and requirements. Some venues even have their own in-house wedding co-ordinators to help you organise your big day.

Don't forget, you don't have to use a hotel as a venue, many restaurants, pubs and Inns also cater for weddings and these venues can often be more intimate and less formal.

Above all, remember your wish list and don't let people sell you something you don't want!

When you are considering wedding reception venues make sure you ask around. There is nothing better than a personal review. You can also check out the venue online in the comfort of your own home without the fear of being sold to.
