A touch of the Spice comes to Surrey

Niroopa Moorthy married Matt Sawyer in a traditional Hindu ceremony followed by a civil wedding an reception the next day.

Matt and Niroopa's WeddingHow did you and Matt meet?

We met on new years eve, 2002. Matt went to university with a friend of mine from school. After a couple of months of trying to find him a girlfriend, we started dating!

How did Matt propose?

We were out in a local bar with a friend of mine, the night the clocks went forward in spring, 2006. When the two of us came home we decided to open a bottle or two of wine, Matt disappeared and I decided to walk round the house trying to drunkenly change the clocks! When he came back he got down on one knee in our front room and I promptly burst into tears! He proposed, I said yes...and the rest is history!!!

Where did you get your wedding outfits from?

We went to New Delhi in Jan 2007, where we got all the outfits for me and Matt. My reception outfit was bought in Wembley at RCKC.

Tell us about the flowers you chose...

For the Hindu wedding, my aunt made the garlands, which consisted of maroon, cream and gold carnations, and the bridesmaids bouquets, which were maroon and cream roses. At the civil wedding, my bouquet had cream roses which matched the button holes of the groom and best man.

What will be your lasting memory of your big day?

he weekend went by so quickly, but what I will remember most is getting choked up Matt and Niroopa's weddingwith emotion as I was saying my vows, and Matt comforting me in front of everyone.

Where did you go on your honeymoon?

We had a surprise honeymoon courtesy of my parents and went to Istanbul for four days and then Bodrum for four days.
A perfect way to end a perfect wedding!

What is the one piece of advice you would give to other Mrs2Be's?

Stay calm, there are other people there to get stressed for you! The day will go so quickly you need to be able to remember everything!!
