Liverpool Love - as Lisa & Alan Wed

Where were you when Alan proposed?

Central Park , New York . It was my birthday and we had just been ice skating.

How did Alan propose?

The first morning after we arrived in New York Alan gave me a small box, inside was a wind-up musical instrument which played the tune of "New York New York" and a piece of paper with a poem and a small ticket which said we were going to go to the roof of the Rockerfella Centre that evening at sunset.

Each day I received a box like this and each day was a different tune with a different fun thing to do that day.

Day two was the song "And I love her" by the Beatles with an invitation to a meal booked at an old fashioned speakeasy restaurant.

Day three was "I want to hold your hand" also by the Beatles with a day free for me to choose want I wanted to do - I chose shopping!!

Day four was my birthday and the box I received had the tune "Happy Birthday" with details of a lovely restaurant for that evening. We then went ice-skating in Central Park which I had always wanted to do. After the ice skating we went for a walk in the park and sat on a bench watching a band play. Alan then gave me another box and inside was a piece of paper with a photograph of Tiffany & Co which said "Buy something special from New York " I wasn't sure exactly what it meant - I was hoping but I couldn't be sure!!

A few minutes later Alan asked me what I would buy from Tiffany's, I said I wasn't sure (I didn't know what to say!). It was then that Alan said he thought it would be good if we bought an engagement ring! Witihin about an hour and a half and we had made our way to Tiffany's and bought a ring!

So, it wasn't down on one knee but I am sure you would agree it was very special indeed!

How much involvement did Alan have in the planning of the wedding ceremony?

Loads! Alan is very creative and so had a lot of input, in fact I had quite a relaxed time for a bride! Although saying that I am not going to let him take all the credit! It was really nice as it wasn't just up to me to deal with all the planning and preparation. Everything to do with the ceremony and the reception was really meaningful to us, we wanted our own personal stamp on it all and Alan's creativity really made it special.

Were there any surprises during the wedding ceremony that he kept from you?

Yes, as we live in the City Centre and were getting married at Liverpool Town Hall we decided not to hire a car as it would literally mean driving down Dale Street . We had planned it so that Alan's nephew would collect my Dad and I in his car which is a Ford Focus. However when I came out of the apartment I saw the most beautiful vintage car waiting to take me to the Town Hall, I was so touched, it was amazing such a lovely surprise.

Did Alan buy you a wedding day gift? If so, what was it?

Yes, on the morning of the wedding I was woken to a text message from Alan saying that there was a gift in one of the drawers. When I opened it it was a beautiful inscribed HUGO BOSS watch with the words "Love you every minute today and forever 13 th April 2006 .

He had carefully chosen the make of the watch as in his text he had said "You will soon be the BOSS of me"!

What was Alan's speech like?

It was lovely, both emotional and funny at the same time.

Everyone now knows he loves me more than Robbie Fowler!

What is your outstanding memory of your big day?

Walking down the aisle with my Dad and seeing Alan there waiting, even though he didn't turn around he said he was looking through the big mirror at the front of the room!

The whole day was amazing there are just so many things. As well as all the emotion of the day there were so many fun things. We had a London Bus pick us all up from the Town Hall to take us to the Albert Dock. We had Rainbow Drops which we used as confetti. Our table decorations at the Ha Ha Bar were vases filled with retro sweets. We had space hoppers for the kids to play on and in the evening instead of having a buffet we had fish and chip cones!
